Job Description

The Retail Graphic Designer will be a key partner in nurturing the brand identity in both apparel and homeware creating a timeless design, who brings a strong point of view built on his/her own inspirations and ideas, with a deep understanding of the South African youth customer.

As the Retail Print Designer you will be responsible for a print range across their retail departments: Womenswear, Menswear and Apartment.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Create apparel and homewear graphics from conception through final vendor-ready art.
  • Interpret trend boards and design direction in order to develop graphics and textiles for all divisions.
  • Partner with Designers and Buyers to ensure a cohesive collection for each season.
  • Stay on top of current trends in fashion and develop ideas and patterns to use for future designs
  • Continually assess and streamline your design process so you can work efficiently
  • Maintain project libraries and organize graphics by season and concept.
  • Responsible for creating embroideries, prints, appliques and patches for apparel based on iconic themes and inspiration
  • Collaborate with the design team on sizing, colorways and placement of logos and prints
  • Keep awareness of current design trends and techniques in the marketplace
  • Design brand packaging, hangtags, labels, etc.
  • Develop and execute clear and detailed technical kits for development.
  • Determine the best layout of pattern pieces to minimize waste of material, and mark fabric accordingly.

 

Key Requirements

  • Degree in Textile or Fashion or Graphic Design
  • 4+ years work experience as a Print Designer
  • Experience creating both textile print and repeated & placed prints
  • Understanding of Typography
  • Expert and current Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop skills.
  • Strong trend researcher, market observer and creator of art, font-work, textile/surface design and graphic direction.
  • Strong knowledge of formulating and utilizing color palettes.
  • Basic knowledge of textile and material construction and properties.
  • Basic knowledge of product costs and impact of design.
  • Meticulous at graphic design and presentation.
